So one of the things that I have been presented with this week was no heating in our house. I stupidly didn’t check the Oil level in the tank and we ran out on Friday (We live in a village that just about has electric).
At first this was annoying but, after a few days I managed to look at the positive side as a few good things came from this experience that I would like to share with you.
First experience after having cold showers was a thought for the poor people that have to sleep outside in the rough. Ok, I had a nice warm duvet and I could put on layers and also position myself in front of the blow heater, But, I tried to imagine what it must be like if you didn’t have those few comforts and it was a scary thought.
Second experience was adaptation, I was actually starting to like the feeling of a cold shower and had surge of energy like I haven’t felt before, this was invigorating first thing in the morning and seemed to put a bit of a spring in my step, So I am going to try and make it a regular thing.
Third was it brought the family closer together (literately) Ethan, Boston and myself all jumped into the hot tub on a cold evening and spent close to 45 minutes chatting, having a laugh and watching the UFC something we wouldn’t have done unless it was summertime.
Then on the cold morning the kids (except Ethan) all jumped into our bed first for a warm cuddle, normally on a school day it’s like waking the dead.
So, in light of the fact that we had to suffer, the body finds a way of dealing with it and with the correct mindset you can turn it into a positive.
Same mindset goes for training & dieting.
Yes you could have your fill of comfort foods like Cake, Crisps, Booze all the stuff that makes us feel happy for a short while, but these are the calorie dense foods that puts on those un-wanted pounds. Ok, unless you are a calorie counting ninja and calculate your total daily allowance chances are with these type of foods you will make you go over your bodies daily demands and you will not achieve the body you dream of!
Like I found with hot water, remove a few of the comfort foods, replace with whole foods, create a balance, and find happiness within that balance.
Then you will find success and happiness within yourself.
